ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A drone "crashed" near the guest house of Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi in Anbar province on Saturday, according to Iraq's Security Media Cell.
The cell said the "very small drone" caused a fire near the facility "without resulting in any significant damage."
"According to technical intelligence assessments, the drone was not carrying any explosive materials. This type of drone has a range of no more than 750 meters and is highly flammable when exposed to high temperatures," it added.
Security, intelligence, and forensic teams have launched an investigation into the incident.
Halbousi, a prominent Sunni politician, is affiliated with the Taqadum Party.
Halbousi was not present at the facility when the drone came down, Saad Ghazi, a senior member of the Anbar Provincial Council, told Rudaw.
Ghazi said authorities have not confirmed whether the guest house was the intended target, adding that preliminary information suggests the drone may have fallen on its own or been brought down by security forces.
