Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) announced on X that the quake took place around 10:40 am local time, saying its epicenter was Malatya province’s Kale district.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on X that the ministry is “closely monitoring the developments of the quake.”
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) recorded the quake as a 6.0 magnitude.
No casualties have been immediately reported.
Syrian state media SANA reported that citizens from the Hasaka, Aleppo, and Deir ez-Zor provinces felt the quake.
Malatya was one of Turkey’s 11 provinces that suffered from a deadly earthquake in February 2023 that killed over 50,000 people.
