BAGHDAD, Iraq — Locals in Baghdad have told Rudaw of their anger and frustration at rocket attacks in the capital, targeting the city's Green Zone.
"A missile landed here. No one knew how it happened. It fell on top of a house. The only party that needs to be held responsible is the security forces, especially forces on duty at night," said taxi driver Khalid Abu Mohammed.
"No one but God knows what is really going on. This should not continue like this."
Three Katyusha rockets targeted Baghdad’s Green Zone early on Thursday but landed in residential areas.
Rockets often target the US embassy, located in the Green Zone. Attacks also take place elsewhere across the country.
"This is a political game. Whenever elections are near, they carry out explosions and blow up houses. They follow their own interests," said cigarette seller Khalil Abdul Hussein.
Major General Tahsin al-Khajafi, spokesperson for Iraq's Joint Operations Command, says intelligence are investigating the "terrorist" attacks.
"Such attacks are intolerable, they are not in the interest of Iraq and other countries," he said.
