MIQDADIYAH, Iraq - Sunnis and Shiites came together for a prayer of unity in the troubled city of Miqdadiyah, Diyala province, on Friday. Sectarian tensions are high here following an Islamic State (ISIS) attack on a Shiite village last month that left 15 dead. Victims’ families then carried out a retaliatory attack on a nearby Sunni village, killing eight.
People who attended the prayer service hope it will be the start of peace between the two sides.
